Last night no candidate won more than 50% of the vote for the Los Angeles Unified School Board District 1 seat, so there will be a runoff on August 12th. This election is to replace Marguerite LaMotte, the South L.A. board member who passed away midterm. The 1st District has 74,000-plus students in 92 traditional schools and 37 charter campuses across south and southwest Los Angeles. More from the L.A. Times.
