AAVREP recommends a YES vote on Proposition 47 this fall.
This measure will change the sentencing for lowest-level, nonviolent crimes such as simple drug possession and petty theft from felonies to misdemeanors – and dedicate the savings to crime prevention. Results will include lessening the prison overcrowding and wide-scale early release programs, reduced prison spending, and an investment of hundreds of millions in K-12 schools, victim services, and mental health and drug treatment instead. More information about this proposal available at SafetyandSchools.com.
We support Proposition 46 because we feel this will improve public safety in our communities by preventing and treat the root causes of crime, as well as give low-level offenders the opportunity to change their lives and break the cycle of crime and imprisonment. We recommend you vote YES on this measure.
