Voter REP encourages African American church leaders to join California Governor Jerry Brown on conference call

California Governor Jerry Brown is inviting faith leaders from around the state to join him on a conference call this Wednesday, April 20 at 12:00 noon to discuss the Public Safety and Rehabilitation Act (please see below).

The proposed ballot initiative would continue efforts to reform our criminal justice system. The measure reduces crowding in our prisons, and helps to bring an end the cradle-to-prison pipeline that has resulted in mass incarceration and which disproportionately impacts African American communities.

AAVREP is urging faith leaders to participate on this call and to learn more about the proposal to change the state’s sentencing laws in a manner that promotes redemption through education and rehabilitation for non-violent offenders, rather than retribution and incarceration.
